Months into the lockdown and we still have a lot of questions about COVID-19. Yes, we already know the basics like how long to wash your hands, how it’s transmitted, or what the symptoms are. However, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about the virus. Every day we are bombarded with news and data – but with all that information overload, sometime we get lost and end up not knowing what to do the information that we have.

In my case, for example, I have my food and groceries delivered to my home. Once a week, I book my groceries through Coop Grocer or Pickaroo. When they arrive, I make sure to disinfect the items by either washing them with soap and water, or spraying them with Lysol.

But what about the perishable food like meats, seafood, and veggies? How do I disinfect them?

Every now and then I also order-in food through Grab Food and every time my order arrives, I’m anxious about how safe these food deliveries are. What is the risk of getting infected from deliveries? Does cooking kill the virus? 

These are the practical questions that we often ask ourselves when dealing with the COVID-19 coronavirus. To address these uncertainties and more, we talked to Dr. Arthur Dessi Roman, Infectious Diseases Specialist from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
