Jollibee Chickenjoy Recipe Hack: For the longest time, I have been trying to figure out a “recipe hack” to figure out how to make Jollibee Chickenjoy at home. I’ve seen a lot of Jollibee Chickenjoy recipes online but most of these are really just regular crispy fried chicken, far from the “crispilicious, juicilicious” quality of the Chickenjoy we know.
I know that it would be difficult to completely recreate Jollibee’s secret recipe, so I’m already happy with getting as close as I can get to the real deal. Imagine my excitement when a few days ago, I saw a LEGIT frozen, ready to cook pack of Chickenjoy cut-ups in Robinson’s Supermarket. As of writing Metro Manila is under quarantine because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To adapt to this “new normal” Jollibee has started selling their frozen Chickenjoy in select groceries since their restaurants no longer allow dining in. You know how I was able to tell that this frozen Chickenjoy is the real deal? It’s because there’s a print in the pack itself saying that it’s made for Jollibee restaurants only, and supposedly not for sale!

The ready to cook Chickenjoy cut-ups are packed according to the chicken parts that it contains. I bought the yellow pack which contains chicken breasts. I got the ingredients that I needed for my Jollibee Chickenjoy recipe hack, went straight home, and started cooking. Click here to jump to the recipe, or simply watch the video below:
Homemade Jollibee Chickenjoy Ingredients
For the chicken
- Frozen Jollibee Chickenjoy (ready to cook)
- Salt
- Pepper
For the breading
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp Five Chinese Spice powder aka Ngo Yong
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
Jollibee Chickenjoy Recipe Hack
- Defrost the chicken. If you’re using the actual packed Jollibee Chickenjoy, take note that you should not wash it because this has already been marinated,
- Gently rub salt and pepper on the chicken. Be sure that they’re evenly coated, including under the chicken skin. Set aside to dry.
- For the breading, thoroughly mix the cornstarch, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Five Chinese Spice powder.
- Coat the Chickenjoy pieces with your homemade breading mix, making sure that you also reach the parts underneath the skin.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a small pot. To check if the oil is hot enough, you may dip a wooden spatula on the oil. If small bubbles are forming around the spatula, then the oil is hot enough for frying.
- Deep fry the breaded Chickenjoy pieces until they become golden brown. Don’t put too many chickenjoy pieces at once so that they are fried evenly.
Where to buy the Ready to Cook Jollibee Raw Chicken
Select supermarkets have started selling frozen, ready to cook Jollibee raw chicken because of the Community Quarantine brought by COVID. I’m not sure though if these chicken cuts would still be offered when the COVID crisis is over.
I got mine from Robsinon’s Supermarket at Lucky Gold Plaza, in Pasig City. Here is a list of other supermarkets where you can buy the frozen Jollibee Chickenjoy:
