Dormy Inn Akita Review: When you think of budget hotels in Japan, chances are you’re already preparing yourself for tiny rooms, basic amenities, and just the bare minimum to get through your trip. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised when I stayed at Dormy Inn Akita — a hotel that not only gave me a cozy room right across Senshū Park, but also spoiled me with perks like free late-night ramen and a legit Japanese onsen experience. Honestly, this might just be my best budget hotel in Akita so far. Watch my full vlog here:
Location: Right Across Senshū Park
We took the bus from Daishoen (where we had a very heart lunch) and got off at Akita Station. From here, Dormy Inn is just a short six-minute walk. Along the way, you’ll pass through the Seibu Mall where you can do a bit of shopping and even the Akita Museum of Art. But the real highlight? The hotel is literally in front of Senshū Park, where you’ll find the Kubota Castle and Hachiman Shrine. Waking up with that park view outside your window is such a treat, we took endless pictures in this area!

Dormy Inn Akita Review: Semi-Double Room
We booked a semi-double non-smoking room, which usually costs around ₱4,000–₱5,000 per night (depending on the season and how early you book). Like many Japanese hotels, the space is on the smaller side. I imagine this would be spacious if I was travelling alone, but it’s a bit tight already for two. We moved around some of the furniture to free up space for our luggage. We moved the side table and towel rack under the TV.

I liked that their amenties have thoughtful touches: the slippers don’t feel cheap, there’s antibacterial spray for your clothes, and nice, comfy robes that you can wear to the onsen. I already expected that the bathroom will be compact, but I’m glad that it’s equipped with a heated bidet toilet and full bottles of shower essentials. Right outside the bathroom, you have a separate sink area with a vanity mirror. A nice surprise was the fridge stocked with complimentary bottled water and a sweet treat. Small details, but they made the stay feel more premium than the price tag.

Free Ramen Every Night
One of the most unique perks at Dormy Inn Akita is the free ramen served at their in-house restaurant from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM. All you have to do is head down to their restaurant, present youe r room key card, and you’ll be handed a steaming hot bowl of ramen. I’m telling you, this may be one of the best shoyu ramen I’ve had! It’s simple but the broth was rich and comforting, perfect after a long day of walking around Akita or after taking a dip at the onsen. There’s a short line at the entrance but trust me, it’s worth lining up for.. Don’t forget to add chili or white pepper if you like a bit of spice in your broth.

The Onsen Experience
Another highlight At Dormy Inn is the free onsen! I know onsens are really popular in the Tohoku region so I made it a point to try their onsen at Dormy, which is open daily from 3:00 PM to 10:00 AM. You get a traditional Japanese bathhouse experience, which means you should be naked when you dip into the water. The onsen facilities include indoor and outdoor baths, a steam room, and showers stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. After soaking, I felt my muscles relax from the day’s long walks. And yes, it does feel a bit intimidating to go completely nude in public the first time, but trust me: nobody cares. Everyone’s there to relax, and the whole vibe is very respectful.

Final Verdict
For the price, Dormy Inn Akita delivers way beyond expectations. The combination of convenient location, comfortable rooms, and those unbeatable perks — free ramen and a traditional onsen — makes it one of the best budget hotels in Akita, Japan. Whether you’re a first-timer in Tōhoku or just looking for a cozy stay near Akita Station, this hotel is definitely worth booking.
Would I stay again? Absolutely. I’d go back just for the ramen and onsen combo alone.
