Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Located in Schenley Park, this conservatory with indoor and outdoor gardens is truly a spectacle to behold and is based on environmentalism and sustainability. The indoor gardens include seasonal exhibits and other exhibits, such as orchids, and there is also a Discovery Garden for children.
Carnegie Science Center
Located on the Allegheny River, the Carnegie Science Center is definitely a cool place to check out. The science center features many hands-on exhibits focusing on such concepts as energy, space exploration, and more. If that’s not cool enough, there is also a ropes challenge climbing and zipline course, a theater, and a planetarium. Finally, head outside to take a tour of a WWII submarine, the USS Requin.
Frick Art and Historical Center
If you are an art lover, the name Frick should ring a bell. Henry Clay Frick’s mansion, Clayton, is the home of the Frick Art Museum. The Frick center is a super cool way to learn more about art, as well as the history of Pittsburgh and the Frick’s.
Duquesne Incline
If you have seen pictures of Pittsburgh, you have probably seen photos of the Duquesne Incline. The incline is a funicular, which is a cable railroad able to move cars up and down inclines. Take in some history at the top of the Duquesne Incline at the station in Mount Washington. Then take a ride on the incline itself for a cool ride and some amazing views.
Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium
This is a cool two-for-one attraction where you can enjoy both a zoo and aquarium. The zoo features giraffes, rhinoceroses, elephants, and more. But the zoo takes things to the next level with animals like sloths and lemurs. The aquarium also features some unique animals besides the expected fish and sharks. You can visit with the penguins or the polar bears on the aquarium side.
