Cookie Craving: A ” The Bald Baker ” Review

There’s something about cookies that remind me of home. I’m not sure if it’s because of the fresh-from-the-oven smell, or my childhood memories of having them for merienda, but cookies have this certain charm that makes me think of warm afternoons, milk, and freshly washed sheets.

This is one of the reasons why The Bald Baker’s cookies were on top of my mind when I went to Best Food Forward earlier this month.  I can tell that I wasn’t the only one because other customers were starting to flock the small table where these goodies are served, and after having a bite of some of the flavors, I understood why.
Allow me to start with the best-selling variety of The Bald Baker’s cookies. I’m guessing that the “compost” part of its name comes from the fact that it’s essentially a mix of several ingredients from the kitchen of Cy Ynares, the Bald Baker himself.
This my favorite because of the playful contrast of sweet and salty. The distinct taste of the pretzels somehow balanced-out the sweetness of the chocolate ingredients. Trust me, this is a must-try.

Black Sesame Matchallow – P70 each / Minimum of 8 pieces

Mixing these well-loved flavors was a great idea. This cookie variety has a distinct matcha taste without getting too bitter. The crunchy, black sesame seeds also added more dimension to the flavor.

Chocollows– P60 each / Minimum of 8 pieces

Out of all the creative Bald Baker flavors, the Chocollow would probably be the most..well…normal. Not that there’s nothing special about it, but going from Orange Miso to Matchallow, to Compost, it pales in comparison with the uniqueness of the other flavors. But still effing good, if you ask me.

Orange Miso – Php 65.00 each / Minimum of 8 pieces

I’m not a fan of having citrus flavors on my cakes and pastries that’s why the Orange Miso is the last item on my Bald Baker favorites list. As expected, there was a kick of zestiness although the orange flavor tastes a bit artificial. The Miso flavor is also not that distinct.

Now this should be something the Cookie Monster would be craving for. Aside from the flavors mentioned above, The Bald Baker also has Salted Caramel, Oatmeal and Flaxseed, and White Chocolate & Cranberry Oatmeal varities.
